As part of the Love Builds Hope campaign, each parish in our Diocese will embark on its own campaign in one of three six-month waves. During this time, a percentage of the funds raised by each parish up to their goal – and 100% of funds received beyond their goal – will be directed toward priority needs identified by parish and mission chapel leadership. This approach ensures that resources are allocated to address specific discerned needs, contributing to the overall strength and effectiveness of each parish and mission.

Evangelization

Evangelización y Hacer Presente la Iglesia

In addition to funds raised for each parish, faith communities in under-resourced areas will have the opportunity to present their needs to the Diocese for increased support. As Christians we are called to build up the Kingdom of God in our midst, to form disciples and to proclaim and live the gospel. We aim to reach out to those who may not yet have received the Gospel of Christ in their lives, and to foster a deepening faith and hope in the poorest areas of our Diocese. Through preaching, education, charitable works, and missionary activities, we seek to bring the Good News to every corner of the Diocese of Brownsville and beyond, embodying the call to love and serve one another as expressed in the teachings of Jesus Christ. We also are called to care for the least among us, those hungry, lost and in need. Many of our brothers and sisters find themselves in great hardship as they face poverty, addictions, mental illness, or crisis in their families. We will take action through our ministries, works, and compassion to help care for them more effectively.

Apoyando a la Iglesia Joven

Throughout the synodal process, the Diocese learned that the young Church desires parish communities that are warm and inviting with attractive and dynamic ministries; they want pastors and church leaders to take an active role in engaging with them; they desire their parish be a place they can share their unique gifts with the larger community; they want resources and venues—including the parish— to be a forum where challenging and sensitive questions can be addressed; and they want a deeper foundation for the faith. The Love Builds Hope campaign will further enable the Diocese of Brownsville in meeting this desire by creating formation opportunities and providing additional staffing to support the spiritual growth of young people in parishes, Catholic schools, and local universities/colleges. This will help the Church actively involve youth and young adults, ensuring they are not only recipients of effective ministry but also active contributors and leaders within their faith communities.

Wellness

Acompañamiento para el Bienestar Mental

We seek to foster in each of our parishes and in every corner of the Diocese a culture of community in which everyone struggling with mental health in all its forms: loneliness, isolation, grief, hopelessness, depression, anxiety, or distress, will feel embraced, accompanied, and supported. The bishops of the United States just recently launched a National Catholic Mental Health Campaign and Novena in an effort to mobilize the Church to respond compassionately and effectively to the mental health crisis. In our diocesan synodal listening sessions we heard the concern that people lack skills, confidence, resources and training to respond adequately to the post-pandemic surge in mental health needs. This new campaign priority will establish and fund parish-based programs to integrate religious practice with behavioral health.
